Georg Sandmann
(1876-1952)

"Looking to rent or buy an empty foundry."

This advertisement published by the founder Georg Sandmann in the year 1927 was the beginning of Eisenwerk Brühl's story of success as an ideal location was found next to the iron- and coal industry.

Georg Sandmann, 1876-1952, started his career by quickly taking over management posts in important foundries. For many years he had been one of the closest companions to Fritz Thyssen and had become board member of the "Steel Works Association". At the age of 51 he was eager to live up to his entrepreneurial power.

With the start of the automotive age it was Sandmann's idea to specialise in a procedure for the casting of cylinderblocks and heads which had until then never been heard of in Germany. To cast cylinderblocks horizontally in green sand did not only lead to cost reductions but also had advantages in quality compared to the production procedure to cast vertically in dried moulds used in Germany at that time. In the course of the years, belt production, automatic coreshooting and continuously working fettling machines built the basis for high volume production. The increasing demand led to an intensive co-operation with design engineers in the automotive industry and resulted in continuous rationalisation process and strict quality controls.

From its start until today our company's history has been marked by the successful adjustment to engineering trends and changing market conditions.
